(Batalla del puente de Boyacá) Simón Bolívar and his brigadier generals Francisco de Paula Santander and Jose Antonio Anzoátegui defeat and capture royalist Colonel Jose Maria Barreiro in the battle sealing the independence of Nueva Granada, now Colombia.

Dade Battle 25 December 108 American troops were ambushed by about 180 Seminole Indians. Colonel Dade, who was on horseback, was the first to be killed. Only three American purportedly survived the attack. Two of these survivors died shortly after.
